INTRODUCING: Yarnist Magazine - For Fearless Knitters

For the past 9 years New Stitch A Day, Yarn Nation, and now Knitiversity have been purely online. We want to take the experience we've created in the digital space and bring it into the physical world. Along with that, we plan to start producing even more great content to help you on your knitting journey.

That's why I'm excited to introduce our next venture

Yarnist Magazine is a new monthly publication for Fearless Knitters who want to take their craft to the next level.

This is a Magazine For Knitters ...

Risks & Challenges

While we've produced many products in the past, including manufacturing yarn, opening a yarn store, and publishing multiple courses and ebooks, we've never made a magazine.

We seek to partner with members of our community to build an awesome team. With the right crew we know we can knock this out of the park.

The primary use of the funds will be to hire talent, including copy editors, writers, designers, graphic designers, test knitters, photographers, layout designers, and anyone else necessary to make this thing work.

Stretch Goals

5 Patterns Per Issue 20,000.00

I’m confused. I want to support but it appears that if I fund more I get less. Please review and confirm. It seems that I get more free months if I fund less money. What!!!????

      • Michelle

I’ve enjoyed the YouTube videos for years now. I hope the magazine patterns will indeed include multiple plus sizes. I quit buying patterns and magazines due to sizing issues. I’m nervously excited to see the new magazine.
        Michelle S.

      • Lisa

First and foremost I want to congratulate you on what you’re doing. I love your work and how you teach! I’ve learned so much from you! I did become a BACKR and I did the $90 one where I get a year print magazine and I’m not trying to be rude or what it all but why is it that if I pay more I’m not getting a gift like the tote or a mug? Just curious because my question is if I want the mug or tote do I just pay that backed amount? If that’s what I have to do I’ll do it. I really wanted the tote.
Thank you for all the hard work you do for th knitting community!! I’m shy excited to get the magazine. Wishing you many blessings.
        Lisa E.

        • Knitiversity

          Hi Lisa.

Sorry for the delayed response. We had discounts for the people who signed on earlier. That’s why the price is higher. However it’s still cheaper than the full price subscription.

You should be able to add a tote or mug to your rewards when you fill out your backer survey. If you haven’t received it yet you can find it here: https://yarnist-magazine.backerkit.com

  2. ROSLYN

All the best, so excited for you and all of us. It will contain all the best ideas for a magazine for all levels, etc.

  3. Zoe

Hi I’m interested in supporting this magazine, however I live in Australia. Is that going to be an issue in relation to postage?

  4. Eileen

I agree with Mary – there is a disconnect between pricing and the $40-$50 rewards. $40 gets you 4 months free with digital subscription, etc.; $45 gets 3 months free (meaning one month less than the lower fee, rather than more). Logic would indicate that more you pay, more you get in terms of free issues.

    • Knitiversity

We have super early bird pricing and early bird pricing that have limited quantities. If you sign up earlier, you get a better deal, but only for the first 25 people for super early bird, and the first 50 for early bird. After that it’s the normal annual price.

We put them all up at once so when one runs out you can still sign up for the next tier. But everyone is getting the same thing. It’s just the price reflects how many issues you would be getting free. You’re not getting 12 issues + 4 free. You’re getting 12 issues and paying for 8. Does that make more sense?

  5. Lindsay Bibler

Will Knitiversity still exist? I am excited about your enthusiasm, but it seems that every year you reboot. What about those of us who already belong to knitiversity. Will we still have access through Knitiversity? This seems confusing.

    • Knitiversity

Yes this is not a reboot. This is an extension of what we’re doing at Knitiversity and both will be closely integrated. Ultimately the plan is to have the magazine be just one of many benefits of Knitiversity+ membership.

  6. Stephanie Brown

For the $250 Lifetime digital subscription, do you get platinum knitervetsity membership if your not a current Knitaversity member? But you do get that with the lifetime print version?

      • Stephanie Brown

I was specifically referring to the digital lifetime membership as stated in my comment not the print lifetime membership.

  7. Robin

Glad to see all is working with my registration, really looking forward to the magazine

  8. Gitte

Hello I’m so excited and looking forward to the Magazine.
I do have a question. Normally I chrochet a lot. There are a difference in some sticht if the languster is english pr american.
Do I find a difference in knitting word in the same Way??

  9. Patricia l

I wish you well as you launch this new venture. Looking forward to the first edition. Pat in Baltimore

  10. Mary

Question: I tried to order the $45.00 membership but it showed $50.00. In looking at what memberships were available it did not say the $45.00 membership was sold out. Help please.

    • Knitiversity

Even if the description does not say sold out, if the sales threshold has been reached that level will no longer be available.

  11. Barbara angrist

How much is the magazine subscription itself? For a donation is the magazine free or lower Cost

    • Knitiversity

The digital magazine will be $5 per issue and the Print will be $9 per issue. There are discounts for becoming an annual backer. You’ll also receive additional bonuses that you would not get when the magazine goes live.

  12. Judy A Taylor

Is Canada considered international? We are on the same continent and I currently receive several subscriptions from the US. I prefer paper magazines to digital.

    • Knitiversity

Yes it would be considered International. At least for now. I will have to talk with our fulfillment house to see how that affects the price for Canadians.

    • Knitiversity

You will be able to send the subscription to whoever you wish. We’ll be sending out an address confirmation survey about a month before they ship.

  13. Dory

2020 is a tough year… Starting 2021 with a new knitting magazine gives something to look forward to. Yea!

  14. Ayesha

I love everything about what this new knitting magazine is going to offer us. Thank you!

  15. Jeanette Shaw

I am excited. Been knitting since I was a little girl. Born in England during the war and was taught in school!! Been knitting since I was 4 or 5!!! However, I remain an ‘old- fashioned knitter’!! Knitted all my 80 years 😎
Where do I go on line to sign up for your magazine!! Will I like the articles still knitting the way I was taught??

  16. Janice H Ponti

Hi! First I want to thank you. I had not picked up my knitting since Covid began 8 months ago. Following you and reading your daily quotes gave me the courage to finish a complicated lace project and I must say it looks great! I am already a backer at $50.00 and would like to upgrade it to $90.00 (for the paper edition of Yarnist). How do I go about that? Thank you again, Janice Ponti.

    • Knitiversity

      Thanks so much Janice!

I don’t have a way to upgrade, but basically I can refund the difference if you sign up for the print subscription.

      • Oak

I also decided to go for the print subscription and purchased the 90.00 backer choice in addition to the 50.00 one. Is there special way to notify be you of this besides here? Or is this comment sufficient? Can’t wait to get the first issue!!!

  17. Julie

I cannot wait for the 1st edition of the magazine to come. This is such an exciting adventure that I am glad to be a backer of. Thank you.

  18. Roberta Schimek

When do you expect your January, 2021 print issue to debut? Will it be available at news stands, Barnes and Noble, grocery stores, airports, etc. or only through the mail? Since it’s January 1st and your special rate appears to not be available what is the cost and where do we send our payment for a yearly subscription? 5 patterns per issue seems a bit small when compared to other American and English offered magazines at the prices that have been previously quoted.
I am excited for a new knitting print magazine. Will it use US or European directions and measurements?

    • Knitiversity

      Hi Roberta!

We don’t have a ship date locked at the moment, so it will most likely be the end of the month.

We do not currently have distribution through any retail stores. Print will only ship through the mail within the US.

We are accepting subscriptions here for a little while longer.

You get much more than 5 patterns per issue as we have our monthly knit-a-long project, 4 stitch patterns, picture tutorials, video support for all techniques featured, audio versions of interviews, etc. Our patterns will also come in multiple sizes and with multiple yarn options at different price points.

Plus there are additional bonuses to being a subscriber beyond the magazine, like classes from Knitiversity.

We will use US abbreviations and terminology for the instructions, but we will include imperial and metric measurements for everything.

  19. Mugdha Manasa

    Hi!
When will the digital edition be released? I did read your comment abt the shipping dates being later in the month. But since I’ve opted for digital editions, I was wondering abt the release date.

  20. McKenna

When are the print editions being shipped? I never received a survey confirming my shipping address or anything. Many congrats on the magazine though! I’m so excited for it!

  21. Elizabeth

Still have received nothing. What is the status of things? Thanks

  22. Tracy Klaus

hopped on this bandwagon early on and still haven’t gotten my first issue!! what is the problem? nothing ruins a reputation like bad practices.

  23. Elizabeth

I purchased a 1 year subscription in Dec 2020 and have yet to receive anything. My patience is at an end. Please reimburse my payment. Thanks

Project FAQ

**********
What makes you different than other knitting magazines?
**********

Our goal is to be completely different from traditional magazines, while still keeping a few features that have come to be expected.

Here are some of the features that will make us unique:

MONTHLY PUBLICATION
Basically no one does this.

YARNTRIPPER DAY TRIP ITINERARIES
I have seen this in at least one magazine, but not as a regular feature.

STITCH DICTIONARY
We’ll feature 4 new stitch patterns every month, and use these stitch patterns in the project patterns featured in the magazine.

VIDEO SUPPORT
Many of our articles and patterns will include links to videos that help explain things in greater detail

WEEKLY PODCAST
All of our interviews will be accompanied by an audio podcast, so you can read or listen along.

KNITSTORY: KNITTING HISTORY
Every month we’ll explore the history and traditions of knitting. Again this has been covered in many magazines, but not usually as an ongoing feature.

MONTHLY BLANKET KNIT-A-LONG
We’ve had A TON of request for something like this, where you get a section of a blanket to complete every month. We’ll also include instructions for making blankets of different sizes.

**********
Why would I buy this when there’s so much free information online?
**********

There is a TON of free stuff on the web.

We think that’s great. But there’s something to be said for having a physical copy in your hand.

Print doesn’t run out of charge, doesn’t break when dropped, and doesn’t get deleted or lost in your inbox.

Digital is great, and we’ll produce digital versions of the magazine too. It’s just nice to have a hard copy available to keep on your shelf.

**********
What skill level are the pattern?
**********

Most of our patterns will be geared toward beginner and intermediate skill levels.

When we do sweater patterns they will be geared toward intermediate and advanced knitters.

**********
Can I cancel my subscription?
**********

For this campaign, we are offering annual subscriptions that include 12 issues PLUS any special issues.

There is no recurring subscription fee.

But we will not be offering a prorated refund if you do not wish to continue receiving the magazine.

In the future if you have a month-to-month subscription, you will be able to cancel at any time.

**********
Do you have a free trial?
**********

In the future we hope to have a free digital issue available for people to see what the magazine is all about. But we are not currently offering a free trial.

**********
Are you shipping internationally?
**********

Not any time soon. The cost to ship a magazine overseas is very high, so we’d have to find a printer locally, and have high enough readership to make it financially viable.

If you’re international we recommend the digital subscription.

**********
Will we be able to download patterns?
**********

We plan to offer pattern download for each issue, though we are still working out the logistics of that.

**********
Will patterns be written and charted?
**********

They will be written, and if a chart is necessary it will be included as well.

**********
Will you be releasing special issues?
**********

We will have some stretch goals to help us release special issues, yes.

**********
Will there be an app?
**********

Maybe.

If we can reach $50,000 in funding we will work on producing an app.

**********
Does this include yarn or kits at all?
**********

Nope. We don’t have any physical products for sale on Knitiversity…

Yet…

**********
What is happening to Knitiversity?
**********

Yarnist is an extension of what we’re doing with Knitiversity.

Knitiversity is still our core brand and where most of our information will be hosted.

As for Knitiversity+, you’ll find that being a subscriber of Yarnist provides some additional benefits we have not yet announced. 😉

**********
Where are you printing this?
**********

We are talking with a big printing company in middle America.

**********
Can I update my shipping address before you start shipping?
**********

Yes we will send out a survey before the final shipping date to confirm your address.

**********
Are there any payment plans?
**********

If you are interested in a Lifetime membership we do have some payment options available, just email me and I’ll go over them with you.

**********
Is there a guarantee or return policy?
**********

With a project like this, there is a chance that things will fail and we can’t make good on our promises.

We’ve in the past taken longer than expected to make good on a promise, or had to go about it a different way, but we always try to do right by our customers.

As for being able to return a magazine if you don’t like it, we probably won’t be doing that.

**********
What is this Platinum level I’ve heard about?
**********

Platinum is a lifetime membership. It’s a one time fee that gives you access to all current and future Knitiversity+ classes. Nothing to buy again.

If you are a knitting fanatic and want to take your time learning everything, this is by far the best way to go.

You’ll also get a digital or print subscription included for LIFE depending on what level you sign up for. Those are SUPER limited, so grab them before they are gone.
